Jackie is home. Not just because she grew up in Des Moines, but because she’s found a medical practice that shares her values. A Family Nurse Practitioner, Jackie has a passion to be an advocate for her patients. She wants to spend time getting to know them using her natural gift for building relationships. She also wants the freedom to practice holistically, to help people feel better using alternative methods in addition to medication. “I want to take the time to listen. I know I’ve been successful when a patient tells me they’ve never had a provider do that for them before.” That’s what brought her to IFM. “I love what I do.” Values and time. That’s why Jackie found a home at IFM.

Professional Approach to the Holistic and Integrative care model: Forming relationships with patients, helping them become advocates of their own health, giving them the confidence to see that they can handle anything that comes their way, and letting them know that I see and hear them are the most important aspects of my role. Every day I have patients coming to me expressing how they don’t know where else to go. They express that no one will listen to them, or how their old provider thinks they’re making things up, and how no one takes them seriously. Well, I don’t think my patients are making things up and I absolutely want to find out what it is that has been making them feel so awful. Here at Integrative Family Medicine, we truly do care and want to help. I always start my sessions by having you talk to me about a couple of the most important health topics that are currently going on with you and that they want to tackle. We spend about 20-25 minutes discussing them and talking about your medical history, medications, supplements, etc. The second part of the appointment is the physical exam and sometimes a lab draw. If you want to have your cholesterol checked, you should come to your first appointment “fasting” (do not eat for at least 12 hours prior to your appointment. Black coffee, plain tea and water are fine). I like to schedule follow-up appointments in the following two to three weeks to catch up on anything else we didn’t get to discuss during our first visit and plan for them to stay on a positive path both physically and mentally. We offer many different services here at Integrative Family Medicine, all that can be found on our website. Though we are an “Integrative Medicine '' clinic, we still practice traditional or mainstream medicine with an emphasis on a more natural approach as much as possible. You do not have to follow a natural approach to be seen at our clinic. We embrace all types of people with different backgrounds and beliefs. This is what makes our clinic so special. We love to hear how patients want to be as natural as possible and that is wonderful up to a point. If I as a provider feel that it is necessary to provide you with testing, referrals, etc., it is my duty to do so. If you, the patient, declines my recommendation, we will simply discuss it, I will document it without judgment and we will make a new plan (of course there are always extenuating circumstances). Other personal insight: Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my three daughters, attending their athletic events, having movie nights at home, and making a big batch of homemade popcorn, catching up on my favorite reality tv, spending time with extended family and friends, doing outdoor activities, and enjoying life! |
