COVID testing for travel

Now that a significant portion of the US population is getting vaccinated, more people are traveling and, as they do, are encountering testing requirements to do so. When that happens, travelers often need a COVID test on short notice. 

Here at IFM, we offer convenient, fast COVID testing. There are several different types of tests available, and it can be confusing as to which one you should get. 

Molecular PCR testing: This nasal swab takes anywhere from 2-5 days, most often results are available within 48 hours. This test is generally the one required for travel out of the country. At IFM, this test is $100 plus a $29 processing fee.

Rapid Antigen testing: this nasal swab can be used for travel to many places, particularly within the U.S Please check restrictions on travel prior to getting this test done. This test also works well for those who are having symptoms or are worried about exposure as results are available on the same day. Results are 95% accurate, and the test takes about 5-15 minutes.

Rapid antibody test: this test uses a drop of blood to check to see if you have developed antibodies to COVID-19. IGM antibodies develop within a few days of infection and fade quickly, while IGG antibodies can develop anywhere from 1-3 weeks post-infection, and are the “long term” antibodies.

PCR testing appointments should be made prior to 1pm so the swab can go out to the lab the same day. If you need a Saturday appointment for travel COVID testing, just call!
