Our mind-body connection is very strong, and symptoms of our brain health does have an effect on our physical health. Spending adequate amounts of time with our clients allows us to discuss contributing factors which include mental health. Most often difficulties with our mental health are first mentioned to our primary care providers. Our approach to mental health, as with everything we strive to do at IFM, is different. At a larger, traditional clinic you will fill out various forms and screenings. If you are not scoring high enough or flagged, most often the provider will not even approach mental health. At IFM, our appointments are longer, which allows us to dig into as many organ systems and symptoms as possible. This allows us to dig deeper into issues that you are struggling with, and come up with a good starting point for addressing those issues.. Our holistic approach to health does not solely include getting a new prescription every time you come in. We use a maulti-faceted approach when it comes to recommending any treatment for our clients. When my clients see me, they are almost always sent home with homework! This may include recommendations on improving sleep, increasing or decreasing activity, relaxation techniques, grounding, meditation, dietary changes, etc. Another facet of treatment most often includes supplements, labwork, and treating any nutritional deficiencies. I cannot tell you the number of clients that I see who are deficient in iron, vitamin D, and B12! Nutrition and supplements are a huge part of mental health and overall feeling of wellness. The other facet can include options for medication. I like to view medication as a bridge in most cases. There is a time and place for medications, especially when there are severe consequences for not utilizing medication to treat certain conditions. Many times with lifestyle changes, the medication can be reduced dramatically or even eliminated after a time. The use of supplements can help you not need such a high dose of medication, which limits side effects. We go over our plan and educate our patients on the “why” at each appointment. If there are questions that arise between appointments, we utilize our patient portal to keep in close contact with our patients. Our nurses are great at answering questions, and we are able to schedule same day appointments if needed. If you and your Primary Care Provider reach a point in your care that they think it is best for you to see a specialized mental health provider, we have amazing team members to send you to! Dr Danielle and Dr Justin are aligned with our mission, values and approach to caring. We also collaborate with them many times prior to them even seeing you, so that they are well prepared for that first appointment. Mental health has deep connections to our physical health. Our holistic approach allows us to provide our patients the high quality of care that you deserve.
