Anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain. Mental health and physical health go hand in hand, that is why at IFM, we take the WHOLE person into consideration! Many things affect our mental health, and many things can help improve our mental health. COVID-19 has increased many peoples anxiety and depression, making it very difficult for them to be treated with traditional medication.
But what if there is an option for those who wish to try an alternative to medication or for those who medications only help somewhat?

Antidepressants increase the number of neurotransmitters, which are the “feel good” molecules that aid in mood. This in turn increases the number of neurotransmitters that enter the neurons of the brain. But these medications have side effects: weight gain, constipation, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, EKG changes, insomnia, blood pressure changes...the list goes on!

Introducing ALPHA-STIM. This small device delivers Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) through the brain to stimulate the production of serotonin and acetylcholine as well activating the neuron gateways to open and allow the “feel good” neurotransmitter to pass through, without the harmful side effects of medication. The CES changes the electrical and chemical activity in certain areas of the brain, amplifying certain areas and deactivating others causing an “Alpha state.” This device has been widely used and studied by the department of defense and the Veteran’s Administration. These studies overwhelmingly report that patients prefer Alpha-stim over traditional medications and narcotics. MD Anderson has also studied Alpha-Stim in advanced cancer patients, finding that it alleviated their depression, anxiety, insomnia, and pain significantly.

This FDA approved device is available through the VA for our veterans. It is not covered by other insurances, but is available at a reasonable cost and will last for over 3 years. When comparing the cost of medication with the cost of the Alpha-stim, it was found that there were great cost savings when it came to using Alpha-stim over traditional medications.

Call or schedule an appointment today to learn more about Alpha Stim and if it is the right choice for you!
