Ten Ways to Strengthen your Immune System

Nobody wants to get sick. Your body is built to operate efficiently so that you don’t. Your immune system, which helps your body fight infection and disease, includes white blood cells, the lymph system,  thymus gland, spleen, tonsils, and bone marrow. It remembers every germ it's ever fought off and brings all its defenses to the fore when it’s attacked, sending antibodies and killer cells to do them in. And you, my friend, are the immune system’s commander-in-chief.

There are a lot of ways you can help it do its job, and pretty much every one of them has to do with choosing a healthy lifestyle. That’s only one of the reasons we operate IFM the way we do. We’re not just here to cure what ails you. We want to keep you healthy. So here goes–ten ways to boost your immune system. They might be easier than you think.

  1. Be happy. Seriously. It’s more than just trying to reduce stress. Do what you love. Kick back and relax. Make love. Play with your dog. Hang out with friends. Think good thoughts. Smile. Laugh.
  2. Hydrate. Your lymphatic system is mostly water, and keeping hydrated keeps it working better. Even when you’re not exercising, you lose water through breathing. Replace what you lose and keep your lymphatic system happy. Our IV Hydration is a great way to do this if you’re falling behind.
  3. Sleep. Your infection-fighters multiply while you rest. Give them some time, and yourself, too.
  4. Eat the rainbow. Not only white or brown, but all the red, green, purple, and yellow beautiful foods that taste so good and your body loves.
  5. If you’re a picky eater, take a multivitamin, making sure it has plenty of B6, C,  E,andZinc, also consider amino acids, here at IFM we know supplements- ask us for some recommendations!
  6. Move. You knew this was coming. Exercise figures into every healthy lifestyle, but it doesn’t have to be goat yoga or high-energy aerobics or kickboxing. Dance. Take the stairs. Chase your dog around the back yard.
  7. Watch your weight. Your germ fighters can’t do as good a job if your body is preoccupied with the inflammation that extra weight brings. If you need help with this, pay a visit to Kala our health coach or Dr. Stephen.
  8. Don’t drink too much alcohol. What’s too much? You probably already know. A couple of drinks a week is plenty.
  9. Stop smoking. Nuff said.
  10. Wash your hands. And again, WASH YOUR HANDS. If the last year has taught us anything, it is the role handwashing plays in staying healthy.

And that’s pretty much it. None of this is rocket science, and you already know most of it, but it’s sometimes the doing that gets hard among everything life throws at you. That’s why we’re here, to get you healthy and help keep you there. Need some help? Make an appointment. We can sit down and talk about it.
